Ap Winterizing
Owning an RV certainly comes with many responsibilities, if not more than owning a vehicle. In the absence of an RV for winter can cause surprises come spring. If the lines are not properly cleaned and ignition systems, freezing temperatures can cause expansion and damage, leading to contamination and costly repairs.
In the winter your RV you can do it yourself or hire a certified technician RV.
For the kinds of "do it yourself, here are some things you need before starting.
• non toxic antifreeze (Amount depends on the willingness and the length of your plumbing lines. Two to three gallons normally do).
• A water heater bypass kit, if not already installed.
• A pipe to clean storage tanks.
• A water pump converter kit, or tubing to connect with the input side of the pump.
• Basic hand tools to remove drain plugs.
Now, to follow in the footsteps of preparation of his RV for the winter.
• If you have any in-line water filters remove and bypass before starting.
• Empty the holding tank freshwater.
• Empty and rinse the tanks with gray and black exploitation. If your RV does not have a tank construction in the injection system clean black tank with a wand, or use a product like Flush King that lets you clean both the black and gray tanks. Lubricate valves resolution with a working paper 40.
• Drain the water heater. Remove the drain plug and open the pressure relief valve. CAUTION (never drain the water heater when hot or under pressure)
• Open all faucets hot and cold, do not forget the toilet valve and outside shower.
• Locate and open the lines of low point drains. There will be lines for hot and cold water. Using the water pump will help force water out, but turn as soon as the system runs out.
• Recap all drains and close all faucets.
• By-pass the water heater. If you do not have a by-pass kit installed the water heater will fill up with antifreeze before it goes through the water lines, loss of six gallons of antifreeze.
• Install a water pump converter kit, or disconnect the inlet side of water pump (the line from the holding tank freshwater). Attach a piece of clear tube to the inlet of the pump and put the other end into a container of a gallon of nontoxic antifreeze.
• Turn water pump and pressurize the system. Starting with the nearest faucet, slowly open the hot then cold valves until antifreeze appears. Vuelva Replace the antifreeze container as required.
• Repeat this process on all faucets in the nearest to farthest away. Do not forget the outdoor shower, if equipped.
• Flush the toilet until antifreeze appears.
• Turn the water pump and open a faucet to release pressure. Exit at the entrance of city water. Remove the small screen over the entrance and push the valve with a small screwdriver until you see antifreeze. Vuelva Put the screen.
• Pour a cup of antifreeze in each drain. Pour two cups into the toilet and holding tank.
• If your water heater has an electrical resistance to make sure it is turned off. This will protect the element if the unit is plugged in while being stored.
• Make sure all faucets are closed.
• Consult the owner's manuals for the winter, ice machines and washing machines.
That's what you are! That was not so bad was it? Now, remove the batteries for winter storage!
